Who are The Gal Pals?

Welcome to the first ever post by The Gal Pals. Today we’re going to give you a little bit of an introduction to the girls behind the blog.

We are Ella and Jess, two twenty-year-old Melburnians in love. We live together (with Ella’s family) in the inner western suburbs of Melbourne.

Ella is a journalism student who is starting to learn German. She freelances in spare time. Ella is the oldest of three and the proud mother of a beautiful cat named Hero. She loves the smell of roses and soft shades of pink.

Jess has always loved writing and is working on her first novel. She’s studying floristry and working at LUSH cosmetics over the holiday season. She loves glitter, kit kats, and making people laugh.

We met on the website Tumblr in 2014 and were online friends for a while. In the start of 2016, we realised we were both staying in the same suburb and met up for coffee. About a month later we started dating, and now we’re lucky enough to be working together.

We both love writing, beauty, and fashion, and after we saw that one of our friends had a blog we thought hey, we could actually do that! We’re still very much learning everything there is to know about the beauty world, and we want to explore that world together. This blog is a learning experience for both of us and a chance for us both to have a creative outlet and make some new friends. As we’re two girls dating each other, we really want to focus on spreading positivity for lesbian, bi and pan girls out there.

Why “The Gal Pals”?

You may have heard people jokingly say “gal pals” before, and if you’re not in on lesbian memes then you probably don’t get the joke. It’s a recent trend from straight people who want to believe that women who date other women are just “very close friends”. We’ve had heaps of people (who know that we’re dating) awkwardly call us “friends”, “gal pals”, and even to our extreme discomfort, “sisters” as they try their hardest to avoid actually admitting that we’re dating. It’s not the worst form of homophobia that we’ve faced, but it’s certainly the most awkward and funniest, so we decided to take that name for ourselves and use it on our blog.

That’s all for now! Tune in every Friday for a new post!
